WAA has restructured it's boys recreational baseball program into five different leagues depending on your CURRENT school grade at the time of registration.

  • Rookie Baseball (current K grade with past T-ball experience) #1091
  • Rookie Baseball (1st grade) #1091
  • "A" Baseball (2nd grade) #1092
  • "AA" Baseball (3rd grade) #1087
  • "AAA" Baseball (4th grade) #1093
  • "AAA" Baseball (5-6th grade) #1094

Age cutoff date is May 1st for all competitive boys leagues only. This change was initiated by USA Baseball and is being adopted by almost every youth baseball organization in IL and throughout the country.  For competitive tryouts and league details, please check the Minors, Majors, and Ponies section.  If a player does not get selected by the draft for a competitive team for Minors and Majors, they are placed in the grade appropriate recreational division.  The fee difference between the two programs would then be refunded.

Rookie Baseball

Rookie Baseball is an introductory baseball program for 1st grade boys.  Players enjoy this natural transition from T-Ball.  Emphasis is on fundamentals of the game as players are shown the basics of hitting, throwing, catching and base running within a framework of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Coaches pitch to their own team for the entire game. Soft baseballs are used.  Players get 8 pitches; there are strikeouts but no walks.  50' bases and 35' pitching distance.  For further details on the baseball rules, please click on the link above.

Teams are organized by neighborhoods whenever possible. Special requests to play with friends are considered, but not guaranteed.

Players must provide their own glove, spikes (plastic only) and white pants.  WAA will provide a couple bats, balls, and batting helmets for each team.  A  jersey and hat are included in the registration fee.

Games are played at locations in close proximity to the teams neighborhoods whenever possible for the younger ages.  Rookies play on grass fields.  The season starts in early June and will run till the 2nd or 3rd week of July.  Game time is at  6:15 PM on weeknights.  Saturday and Sunday game times will vary.
